Sodium Metabisulfite For Rubber Industry
With Na2S2O5 as its chemical formula Sodium Metabisulfite is an inorganic compound. It is also referred as disodium. It has found vast usages in industry as antioxidant, disinfectant and preservative. It is made by dispersing a solution of sodium bisulfite drenched with sulphur oxide that leaves behind solid Na2S2O5. Apart from food industry and pharmaceutical industry, it has found an important role to play in rubber manufacturing industry. It is taken into uses as coagulative agent in this industry.
Rubber manufacturing is a complex process, which involves extraction of natural rubber from plants. After this, the filtering and purification of extracted rubber is done to remove dirt and dust coagulation with acetic and formic acids. After this step, it is rolled into sheets, cured and cut by using either smoke or sodium bisulfite and then bales are formed for shipping purpose.
